- Santa Elena
Canyon "Boomerang" Trips
One
Day Santa Elena Canyon Canoe "Boomerang" Adventure
This
trip is only offered during low water periods. The put in point is at the
"mouth" of Santa Elena Canyon. No canoe experience is necessary
but paddling is mandatory. The ability to assist in carrying canoes and
gear is very helpful, and a spirit of adventure is a must. If you've never
paddled before, your guide will explain the strokes to you before the trip.
Check
in at our office in Terlingua at 8:00A.M. and meet your guide for the day.
Please wear tennis shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting wet or muddy,
and bring a personal canteen or water bottle to carry with you in your canoe.
You will also need sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat! We can provide
dry bags or waterproof ammo cans for cameras, please let us know if you need
one. Arrangements can be made to meet you at the put in if you are staying
in the park.
Once
at the put in, with two to a canoe (or three if you have a small child) you will
be paddling upstream into Santa Elena Canyon where the walls reach skyward 1500
feet. Our destination is Mexico and a hike into a beautiful side canyon.
Fern Canyon is a delightful surprise with it's picturesque fern draped, water
sculpted rock walls.
After
the optional hike in Fern you will enjoy a full deli style lunch prepared
riverside by your guide.
The
return trip downstream to your starting point is more leisurely as you go with
the flow and enjoy the spectacular beauty of the canyon walls and the songs of
the canyon wren.
After
loading gear and canoes we head back to our office, thus ends your adventure for
the day.

Two Day Santa
Elena Canyon "Boomerang" Adventure
For
those of you wishing to enjoy the experience of a longer trip, we also offer our
"boomerang" trip as an overnight or three day adventure giving you
more time for relaxation, exploration of the canyon, star gazing, hiking, and an
incredible, night time outdoor dining event. You have the time to go
swimming in Fern Canyon while you enjoy the beauty of Santa Elena Canyon.
You have more time to paddle farther into the canyon on these longer trips, time
explore other side canyons, or just kick back and take in the sights and sounds
of the river and the spectacular views of the star filled sky at night.
All
overnight or multiday trips depart from our office in Terlingua at 8:30 a.m. and
they have a scheduled take out time on day two or three between 3 and 4 p.m. This
will allow you to return in time to enjoy some local nitelife at the local
watering holes in Terlingua.
All meals, from lunch the first day to lunch
the last day are included. Our guides are all wonderful "chefs". We
offer wine with dinner each evening but you are welcome to bring your own
"drink of choice" in a small cooler.
Above our
guide is preparing a scrumptious feast on a Two day "Boomerang" Trip.
This trip is offered for low water boating
only and gives an alternate solution for those wishing to do overnight trips or
multi-day trips in canoes.
