About Us

Big Bend River Tours was founded in 1969, by Wayne Walls, making it the oldest commercial outfitter in the Big Bend. It was then sold to Beth Garcia in 1985.  Beth ran it until Jan Forte’ became partners in 1998. Jan bought out Beth in 2000, running the company until illness struck in 2010. Jan, wishing the company would go on, left Yvette Rose in charge of the business, giving her majority ownership. Jan succumbed to her illness in March of 2011, and is sorely missed by all. Yvette, an experienced river guide and business manager is running the company.

Our guides specialize in history, geology, flora and fauna, including bird watching, as well as other special interests. We hire guides from all over, as well as have year round guides who only reside in the Big Bend. We have senior guides who have worked with us for many years, with a wide range of experience.  This company has always strived to provide great cuisine on our trips using only quality ingredients. All of our guides are trained outdoor cooks, providing wonderful meals in a beautiful setting. We believe we provide the best food on the river.

Big Bend River Tours prides itself in our extensive training program for new guides, striving to provide a friendly, informative and entertaining experience for our guests.  Our top priority is always your safety. All guides operating on the Wild and Scenic Rio Grande River are required to have current certification in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and CPR.

Our staff is professional and courteous from the office personnel who assist you in booking your trip, to the shuttle back. So, hesitate no more! Call us today and let us aid you in having a great experience in the Big Bend.
